What Lay Patients Can Tell Analysts about Psychoanalysis
A presentation for students, faculty and staff on the value of patients’ memoirs for better understanding how analysands experience their analysts, their techniques, and analysis itself. Reading excerpts from her own memoir and others, Peters leads a discussion of how practitioners might use what’s revealed in these patient perspectives, and whether it affects their understanding of psychoanalysis. With a short writing exercise, students express their own patient experience, and learn how to set up writing groups in the institute. (CE/CME credit).
